Air Canada Pilots Prepare for Strike
Ongoing Labor Dispute Escalates
Montreal, August 14, 2024
Air Canada pilots are preparing for a potential strike amid an ongoing labor dispute with the airline. The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which represents the pilots, announced on Wednesday that a strike vote will close on August 19, 2024.
The dispute stems from stalled contract negotiations between the airline and the pilots, who are seeking improved wages and working conditions. According to ALPA, the pilots have been working without a contract since 2015.
In an attempt to resolve the impasse, Air Canada and ALPA have engaged in mediation with a private mediator. The pilots have also indicated their intention to request assistance from a federal conciliator.
If a strike does occur, it could have a significant impact on Air Canada's operations and its passengers. The airline has warned that it may be forced to cancel or delay flights if a strike takes place.
