Air Canada Pilots Voting On Possible Strike As Negotiations Continue

Air Canada Pilots inch closer to potential strike

Strike vote by 5,500 members to close Aug. 4

Vote on giving union strike mandate

Air Canada pilots are voting on whether to give their union a strike mandate, with the vote closing on Aug. 4. The earliest possible job action would be Aug. 9. The pilots are currently in the process of a strike vote which closes on Aug. 4. The pilots are now voting on whether to give their union a strike mandate.

The strike vote comes after Air Canada pilots staged a protest at Toronto's Pearson International Airport YTO on September 29, 2023. The pilots are nearing the end of federal conciliation in long-running contract negotiations. Air Canada pilots have responded to the airlines latest financial report by noting they remain in federal conciliation.

If members vote for a strike mandate, the union would be in a legal position to call a strike. However, a strike would only be called if negotiations between the union and Air Canada fail to reach a resolution.

Air Canada has said it is committed to reaching a fair and reasonable agreement with its pilots. The airline has also said it has contingency plans in place to minimize the impact of any potential strike.
