Republic of the Gambia

The Gambia, officially the Republic of The Gambia, is a republic in West Africa. It is located on the banks of the Gambia River.

History

The Gambia was founded in 1965 by Dawda Jawara, who became its first president. In 1994, Yahya Jammeh seized power in a military coup and ruled the country for 22 years.

In 2016, Adama Barrow was elected president, ending Jammeh's rule.

The Gambia is the smallest country in mainland Africa.
