Tom Thibodeau: A Basketball Coaching Journey

From the Boston Celtics to the New York Knicks

WEB, Boston Celtics (2007-2010)

Tom Thibodeau's coaching career began in earnest when he took over as head coach of the Boston Celtics in 2007. Under his leadership, the Celtics reached the NBA Finals in 2008, albeit with a heartbreaking loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Chicago Bulls (2010-2015)

Following his stint with the Celtics, Thibodeau joined the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls enjoyed significant success under his watch, reaching the Eastern Conference Semifinals four times and the Eastern Conference Finals once. However, despite the team's accomplishments, Thibodeau was criticized for his demanding coaching style.

USA Basketball (2015-2016)

Thibodeau took a brief hiatus from the NBA to serve as an assistant coach for USA Basketball. He helped the team win the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Minnesota Timberwolves (2016-2019)

In 2016, Thibodeau returned to the NBA as head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He guided the team to the playoffs twice but failed to advance past the first round. In 2019, he parted ways with the Timberwolves.

New York Knicks (2020-Present)

On July 30, 2020, Thibodeau was named the 26th head coach in New York Knicks history. He has brought a renewed sense of discipline and accountability to the team, leading them to their first playoff appearance since 2013 in his first season at the helm.
